Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve (Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve) was established in 1987, touching Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung districts, covering an area of 1325 square kilometers. The said hunting reservation is the only hunting reservation in Nepal. This hunting reservation falls in the Dhaulagiri range.
The main objective of establishing Dhorpatan hunting reserve was to protect the ecosystem in the hilly and mountainous regions. Apart from that, as it is the only hunting reserve in Nepal, the management committee of the reserve had arranged hunting for Nepali and foreign tourists including hunting of Nilobheda, Himalayan Thar, Leopard, Ghoral, Sirau, Himalayan Black Bear, and Wild Badel. However, the number of some animals has been declining for some time now and due to the conservation of these animals, only four animals can be hunted.
The Dhorpatan hunting reserve is located entirely in the hills where it is snowing all year round at a high altitude. When it comes to weather and climate, the area is in a very cold place, so the daytime temperature is very low and cold air also blows. March and April of the English month are considered suitable for tourism.
It is home to a wide variety of wildlife. In terms of vegetation, the area is very high in altitude, so most of the vegetation is found only in pine, cedar and mountainous areas, as well as in Nepal. There are two ways to reach Dhorpatan hunting reservation from the capital Kathmandu. You can go by bus route or by air route. Gulmi can be reached from Kathmandu via Tansen Tamghas and it can be reached on foot for 3 days.
Speaking of air, you can go from Kathmandu to Baglung via Baglung or Pokhara and then you can also reach Baglung by walking for four days. In addition, you can rent a helicopter.There are two small and simple hotel lodges for tourists around Dhorpatan hunting reservation which are located in Chyantun and Dhorpatan.
