1. Why is it called Makar Sankranti?

In Capricorn solstice, the word ‘Capricorn’ indicates Capricorn. While Sankranti means transition. On the day of Capricorn solstice, the Sun enters Capricorn from Sagittarius. Maghe Sankranti : Overview

In Madhes, the Maithil and Tharus communities celebrate this festival with great harmony. In the Tharu community, this day is celebrated almost as New Year in the form of Yele Duganka.
