Makar Sankranti, The significance of that festival is greater, which is mentioned in the Vedic scriptures, Dharmasutras and codes of conduct. There are some festivals that have their own unique way of celebrating. Sun-Moon solstice and Aquarius are more important in this festival.

1. Why is it called Makar Sankranti?

In Capricorn solstice, the word ‘Capricorn’ indicates Capricorn. While Sankranti means transition. On the day of Capricorn solstice, the Sun enters Capricorn from Sagittarius. This process of moving from one zodiac sign to another is called Sankranti. The Sun enters Capricorn for the same reason it is called Capricorn Equinox. According to the Hindu month, Makar Sankranti is celebrated on the side of Push Shukla.

Based on the moon, the month is divided into two parts, Krishna and Shukla. Accordingly, the year is divided into two parts on the basis of the sun, north and south. The sun sets from this day. That day is a public holiday in Nepal. On the day of Maghe Sankranti, it is customary to go to various rivers, seas and Triveni in Nepal to bathe and worship.

Since the Sun enters Capricorn from Sagittarius and descends from the day of Maghe Sankranti, it is said that it is called “Capricorn Sankranti”.
