Gokyo Ri                                                                                                                               Gokyo Ri falls within the Everest National Park. It is listed as a World Heritage Site. Nongjongba is the longest glacier in Nepal. Once there, the 360-degree panoramic view captivates everyone. There are a total of five lakes in this area.

Gokyo Ri Lake is at 5,360 meters. Lhotse, Choyu, Makalu mountain ranges including the world’s tallest Mount Everest can be seen in this place.Gokyo has a peak at 5300 meters, which is called Gokyo-ri. It is easy to climb, although extreme heights have an effect.

As you climb up, you get a panoramic view of Lake Gokyo. At the same time it was discovered that there is a small wall behind the hotel, with the Nagojumpa Glacier.Everest is also visible from Gokyo-ri. Looks like these clouds won’t let you see Everest.‘Gokyo Ri Lake offers views of Mount Everest, Makalu, Choyu and Lhotse Mountains, and is also a mountain route in itself.

It takes three days to reach Gokyo Ri from Namche. Dashain and Tihar are considered to be the best time to visit the place.During Dashain and Tihar holidays, it is considered a good time for Nepalis to visit the place. You can go to Lukla plane from Kathmandu and return to Kathmandu in 10 days .Gokyo Lake, which is the source of Dudhkoshi, looks different in day, night and evening.

Gokyo Ri

Reaching the Everest base camp via Gokyo Lake is also a very challenging route. However, it is considered to be the main trekking route as it is the choice of everyone. Gokyo Valley, Gokyo Ri, Gokyo Chola Pass, Everest Base Camp, this footpath is considered one of the most dangerous in the world. On this journey, you can see Mt.Everest.

Gogyo Lake is visited by observing the original culture of the people of Lukla, Fakding, Monjo, Jorsalle, Namche, Mongla, Dole, Marchemu, Dole and Force villages.

This is a 3-4 day trek. Very quiet, clean. Not even a crowd. The opportunity to walk along the glaciers and lakes is found in this trek. There is also a valley here. There is also a river. That has to be overcome. You can walk through the mountains. There are grooves, there are also big grasslands. There are very attractive mountains. Isn’t the mountain view on this trek less fascinating?

This trekking experience at an altitude of about four thousand meters requires hiking experience. As it is a bit difficult to walk, you have to travel carefully. You have to walk through the snow while crossing the ‘Amfulapcha Pass’. Other times it doesn’t happen. Snow is the only way to walk in the snow.

Of course, mountain destinations are also a bit expensive. And, you have to gather a lot of courage. But, the joy of getting there is amazing. I really like Khumbukshetra’s Gokyo Ri. Also, my favorite destination is Amfulapcha Pass. This pass also falls in Khumbu area. I have to walk from my peak to Baruchche Himal.

Nepal is an attractive destination for adventure tourism. From trekking, cruising to mountaineering, Nepal has been identified as an attractive destination.

There are six main lakes in the region. These lakes are among the highest freshwater lakes in the world. Thonak Lake is the largest of these lakes. Since 2007, the 7,770-hectare (approximately 30-square-meter) area of Gokyo Lake has been declared a Ramsar site.

Religious significance of Gokyo Lake:
Gokyo Lake is considered pure and sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. More than 1,000 Hindus bathe here every year on the day of Janapurnima in August. On an average, more than 7,000 tourists visit here every year. To the south of this lake is the temple of the Hindu gods Shiva and Vishnu. Where thousands of devotees come. This place is famous for its special snake deity.

The Gokyo Ri Lake range, located in the Khumjung Village Development Committee of Solukhumbu, a mountainous district in Nepal, is considered to be one of the most important wetlands in the highlands of Nepal. The Gokyo Lake range is part of the World Heritage-listed Everest National Park. The six lakes in the range are stretching from 4,700 to 5,400 meters above sea level. The Ngozomba Glacier, known as the longest glacier in Nepal, stretches parallel to this lake range.

The third of the six lakes in the Gokyo Lake series is known as Gokyo Lake. It is also known as Gokyo Cho, Dudh Daha etc. Gokio Lake, spread over an area of about 43 hectares, is the deepest lake in the range. Gokyo Lake is also the most important lake in the range from a religious, cultural and tourist point of view. The lake and its environs are sacred sites of religious and cultural significance to both Buddhists and Hindus.

Of the lakes in the Gokyo Ri range, there is no direct correlation between Gokyo IV, V and VI. But Gokyo comes from the third to the second and from the second to the first. The last drain of water comes out from Gokyo first. The water released in this way combines with the water coming from the Ngozomba Glacier to form the Dudhkoshi River. The Dudhkoshi River flows down from there and joins the Imjakhola, Bhotekoshi and finally Saptakoshi rivers. And after reaching Saptakoshi river in India, it merges with Ganga river. Seen in this way, the Dudhkoshi river flowing from the highlands is sacred.

Gokyo Ri

The Gokyo Valley is famous not only for its beautiful lakes but also for its views of the world’s highest peaks, mountaineering, wildlife and bird watching. Known as ‘Gokyo Ri’ at the head of Gokyo Lake, the Gokyo Lake Range and Mount Everest can be seen from a high point, so tourists visiting the Gokyo area also climb ‘Gokyo Ri’. About one-third of the world’s major tourist destinations in Nepal’s Everest National Park are visited by tourists.

In this Gokyo Lake area, which is under a lot of pressure from tourists, along with the increase in the number of tourists, the destruction of the environment has also increased. In this region, environmental problems such as deforestation, overgrazing, pollution and garbage problems, soil erosion, encroachment of lakes, global warming and melting of snow have gradually emerged. The Himalayan region is considered as an indicator of climate change. The Gokyo area can be taken as a vivid example of this. The water level in Gokyo Ri Fourth and Fifth Lakes is decreasing.

The Ramsar Convention is a convention held on February 2, 1971 in Ramsar, Iran, to protect wetlands of international importance, especially the habitat of water ducks. The Ramsar Bureau declares the world’s wetland to be the most unique and most important wetland in the world. The vision of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the custodian of the Ramsar Convention is to increase international cooperation at the local, regional and national levels.

History Of Kathmandu Valley

Until 1.5 million years ago, it was not a Kathmandu valley like it is now. Kathmandu Valley was a dense forest. If any human ancestor had come here to hunt, he would have met the elephant. That elephant was not as big as it is now. Was just a little bigger than us or our ancestors .According to geologists, the transformation of Kathmandu Valley began 1.5 million years ago, when friction between the Eurasian and Indian plates caused the Mahabharata mountain range to erupt to the south.

When the Bagmati was blocked and the ditch was filled with water, the dense forest here began to be submerged and destroyed. There was a commotion in the herd of animals. Clever animals may sting. Losses may have drowned while trying to make millions in Kathmandu valley. The fossils we have found are those of drowned animals.

Scientific studies have shown that the process of flooding of   Khaldo started about 30,000 years ago. Two geographical disturbances may be responsible.

First, the frictional friction between the Eurasian and Indian plates that caused the Mahabharata mountain to rise to the south and form the Kathmandu Valley and freeze the lake, the constant friction of the same plate caused major earthquakes here in different periods.

For thousands of years, earthquakes shook the Valleys around the Kathmandu Valley. The gorges were cut, which became small and big bhanjyangs including Sanga, Pati (Sundarijal), Murkhu (Kakani), Gokarna, Pashupati, Bhimdhunga, Pharping and Naikap. The only geologist is of the opinion that water was drained from those bhanjyangs.

The water that has accumulated over millions of years has certainly not evaporated in a few thousand years. It is estimated that it took at least 20,000 years for the complete extinction. During this period, some gullies may have been torn by earthquakes, some may have been cut by water currents.

The fact that water was frozen in the Kathmandu Valley does not mean that it is full from the surface of the river below to the top of Chandragiri hill. There are many lakes, small, big, deep, lamcha, which have been drained in their own way at different times.

Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu Valley

he longest lake-like terrain is the deep plain between the present Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur regions.

This last remnant of  Lake was excavated from Chobhar Gorge about 10,000 years ago, which is confirmed by scientific facts. Some things we can also understand from legends.

Origin of Kathmandu Valley

It is said  that after Manjushree opened the water outlet by striking the Chobhar hill with a sword, it became suitable for human settlement in the Kathmandu valley. The knot of mystery that scientific research has not been able to solve is hidden in the legends.

We can also compare Manjushree’s sword attack with earthquakes of different periods. Why did Manjushri strike at Chobhar from the Yatra hills around the valley? Why not in Gokarna? Why not in Sanga? And didn’t Manjushri have to use a sword to cut the bhanjyang in Sundarijal and Kakani?

Our legend indicates that the last lake of Kathmandu Khaldo dried up and the Valley became habitable after the opening of Chobhar Danda.

The revelation of this story is that Kathmandu, which specializes in changing the form of ‘amoeba’, became a land suitable for human habitation at least 10,000 years ago by drying the water of the lake from the dense forest 1.5 million years ago in Valley

This is an interesting coincidence between Kathmandu story and human history.

At a time when the Kathmandu Valley was becoming habitable, our human ancestors were just learning to farm. They were making strides from the hunter-gatherer era to the agricultural era for millions of years.

They were trying to grow grain by mashing the forest. They were raising animals useful for milk, eggs and meat like cows, sheep, chickens and buffaloes. They were setting up permanent settlements in search of arable land along the river. From Egypt to Iran and from the United States to Africa, agriculture, animal husbandry, and systematic settlement were beginning .At such an important ‘turning point’ of human development, the Kathmandu Valley must have attracted a group of human beings wandering in search of a place to live .They rejoiced here, became here. Settled settlements, revived culture, created new states.Like a relay race, the kingdom passed from one ruler to another. Each ruler brought new art, new skills, skills and culture, architecture and style. The combination of all made Kathmandu a civilization.

The Licchavis have been expelled from Vaishali, India. Vaishali was ‘abbal’ in method, system and architecture in Kathmandu Valley. Their capital is near Patna in the Indian state of Bihar. India has been promoting Vaishali as the world’s ‘first republic’. According to Hindu architecture, this city-state, built in a square geometric pattern of nine-khanas, was surrounded by walls.

Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu Valley

There were large wooden gates at the main entrances to the city. Lichchhavi remains are still abundant here, which are a tourist attraction. In the last year of Gautama Buddha’s life, in 486 BC, King Ajatashatru of Magadha attacked Vaishali. The Licchavis, who escaped with their lives, crossed the eastern part of India, climbed the forests of Madhes and reached Kathmandu Valley there .

How long could those who ruled a vast and prosperous empire like Vaishali stay away from Rajpath? One day, seeing the opportunity, he chased away all the Mallas, Gopal and others who ruled in different parts of the Kingdom of Nepal, including Kirant, and established their political supremacy and made Handigaun the capital. This is about the first century BC or the first century in Kathmandu Valley .

Whether it’s Athens in Greece or Rome in Italy, Luxor in Egypt, Damascus in Syria or Benares in India – there are many thousands of years old cities in the world. However, there are few ancient cities whose original form and structure have not changed. It is one of the rarest ancient cities in the world.

In terms of geography, this city, like the ‘Amoeba’, has preserved the rich Lichchavi-era urban crafts. It is now the responsibility of our generation to recognize Kathmandu Valley and make it known around the world.

Visit Nepal 2020

There are indications that the government’s target of attracting 2 million tourists to Nepal in the year 2020 will be pushed in the first month. Due to the appearance of corona virus in China and its impact on various countries, it is seen that the target of Nepal Tourism Year will be pushed. About 30 percent of the foreign tourists visiting Nepal are Chinese nationals. Among the foreign tourists visiting Nepal, Chinese tourists are second only to Indians.

According to the Tourism Board, 169,000 Chinese tourists entered Nepal in 2019. This is 3 percent more than in 2018. In 2017, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Nepal was limited to around 0.1 million. Recently, with the increase in the number of Chinese tourists in Nepal, the tourism sector was excited. In the midst of this enthusiasm, the government announced the year of visit 2020. However, the Tourism year has not started yet .The corona virus epidemic in major markets in China has led to a complete halt in Chinese tourist arrivals. However, this situation will not last long, say stakeholders. Tourists say that with the control of Corona, a conducive environment is gradually being created.

Nepal Tourism

Khum Subedi, president of the Trekking Association of Nepal (TAN), says China’s current problems will not go away for a long time and the environment will gradually become more conducive. Instead, he said, the government of Nepal and stakeholders should find alternative solutions to solve the current problem immediately.”The tourism sector has been disrupted by China. We have to look for alternatives instead of saying that it is over,” said Subedi. He also said that alternative routes should be arranged for third country tourists coming through China (transit). He said that the government should take the initiative for this.

“China is not the only tourist market in Nepal. We should not pretend that Nepal’s tourism sector will not function without Chinese tourists,” he said. Earlier, Chinese tourists did not come. For this, the government should formulate alternative strategies in other areas.According to the latest statistics of the Immigration Department, 12,040 Chinese nationals have arrived in Nepal from Tribhuvan International Airport in January alone. This number is from January 1 to 25.During this period, an average of 482 Chinese citizens have come to Nepal every day. But when the Corona outbreak hit China, that number plummeted. On January 26, 27 and 28, only around 300 Chinese tourists have come to Nepal for three days. After that, the arrival of Chinese tourists has come to a standstill.

50 percent hotel booking canceled
Chinese tourists have stopped coming to China after the Nobel Corona virus took the form of an epidemic. All China-Nepal flights have been canceled. Hotel, lodge and restaurant business has slowed down.About 50 percent of the bookings of the booked hotels have been canceled. Sajan Shakya, general secretary of the Hotel Entrepreneurs’ Association (HAAN), told Ratopati that only 20-25 percent of the bookings were canceled by Chinese groups.

Nepal’s tourism sector is in turmoil due to the corona visor seen in China. Up to 50 percent of hotel bookings have been canceled since the arrival of Chinese tourists. In which not only Chinese but also tourists from countries connected with China and European countries have stopped coming to Nepal, ‘said General Secretary Shakya. He says that not only the tourism year but also the hotel business of Nepal will be quadrupled. According to Shakya, the government of Nepal, Tourism Year Secretariat, Tourism Board and other tourism entrepreneurs are now looking for alternatives to China to improve the tourism business. To improve the tourism business, a policy has been adopted to focus on SAARC countries. A strategy is being formulated to attract tourists by giving concessions even in the current air fares. Discussions are underway among the concerned bodies for that.

Nepal Tourism

Pushed target
The halt in Chinese tourist arrivals and the decline in the number of tourists from European countries have posed a major challenge to the goal of attracting 2 million tourists a year. The outbreak of the corona virus is still rampant and will continue to plague the country for a few more months, so there is no immediate improvement in tourist arrivals. However, the government, which had earlier celebrated the Tourism Year, had not been able to attract tourists as per the target.

Chairman of TAN, Khum Subedi says that a maximum of 1.3 million tourists will enter Nepal this year. He said that it would be possible to attract 1.3 million tourists a year from Tribhuvan International Airport on the basis of air travel, capacity and market.‘Not all tourists are as soon as the plane lands at the airport. The core foreign nationals who come for the purpose of spending are the real tourists. But such numbers are rare, ‘he said,’ there are also Nepalis coming from outside. That includes some NRNs. ‘He said that the number of tourists entering Nepal would be 12-13 lakh annually.

Nepal Tourism

Chairman of UNITRA Center Committee ,Suman Parajuli also says that the goal of the tourism year will not be achieved. He said that despite the weak infrastructure, the drum of the year was beating, adding that the corona virus seen in China has added to the challenge. The government has set a target of attracting 2 million tourists. But that doesn’t seem likely, “Parajuli said.” The Corona epidemic in China has added to the challenge. This has raised fears that the number of tourists will reach even the average of last year. ‘According to Parajuli, the current state of tourism infrastructure and social security is also causing problems in tourist arrivals. He said that despite the introduction of the Social Security Act on tourism security and portals, there are still problems in its implementation.
