Who are Newar?

Newar CasteĀ are an indigenous community that has been living in the Kathmandu Valley since ancient times. The Newar tribal community is called Newa. Newa: It has become Newar in recent times. It is said that the name of Nepal is derived from the Newa language. Newa: In the language, the Kathmandu Valley is called Ne and later it is called Nepal as Aprabhansh.

According to legend, Manjushri pierced the Chobhar gorge with a sword and sent water out of the Kathmandu Valley to settle human settlements. It is believed that Newars have been living in the valley since then. On the basis of historical evidence, the oldest records so far, namely the Chabahil Stupa in Kathmandu, have been found with bricks written in Brahmi script, which has been inhabited since the third century BC. Therefore, people have been living in the valley since the third century BC. There is historical evidence of Newar settlement since then.

According to the genealogy, the basis of state operation in the Kathmandu Valley is mentioned in the genealogy. Since all those who run the state in this way are Newars, it has been speculated that there were Newars in the valley even before the Gopalvanshi ruled the state.

The Newars live in 75 districts of Nepal. They have moved out of the Kathmandu Valley at different times. In recent times, Newas have been living in different countries.

Newa: Mhapuja is the major culture in the society. Mh is the body. Mhapuja is a Newari culture of worshiping one’s own body. It is estimated that Mhapuja has been evolving since 2000 years ago. Similarly, the procession of Rato Machhindrathan has been conducted by the Newar community for 3600 years, i.e. 1600 years ago. Newa: Culture is a culture that has the characteristic of worshiping man as a deity. Therefore, there is diversity and specialty in Newa culture. The Virgin God is another example of this. A virgin is a living goddess.

The religious, cultural and geographical diversity within Newa is a feature of this community. Therefore, this community is different from other indigenous tribes. Newa: There are different types of culture within the community. This community is a linguistic community due to its diverse culture. During the Kirat period, Lichhavi period and Malla period, all the people who came to the valley from the north and south, all of them seem to be speaking Nepali language, i.e. Newa language. Nepal script and Newa literature have been developed for about a thousand years before the beginning of Nepal Sambat. Nepali script Newa: is the community’s own script.

Language and dialect of Newar Caste

The language spoken by the Newars is ‘Nepal Bhasha’ i.e. ‘Newa: Language’. Newa spoken in Kathmandu: The language is considered as a developed language. Newa: Apart from Kathmandu, language speakers are also present in other districts including Dolakha, Pokhara, Pyuthan, Palpa, Nepalgunj, Sunsari (Dharan), Jhapa (Damak, Birtamod), Dhankuta and Ramechhapal.

Although the number of Newars speaking Nepali language is high in Kathmandu Valley, Nepali language should be divided into two languages. One is geographical dialect and the other is social dialect. The Nepali language spoken in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Dolakha is considered as a geographical dialect while the Balami language, Pahari language and Gopali language are considered as social dialects.

According to the latest statistics, the population of Newars is more than 1.3 million. Half of the population is in the Kathmandu Valley. Out of 1.3 million Newars, 63 percent speak Newar.

Shankhadhar Sakhwa, a national luminary, started the nation in 937 BS (880 CE) by redeeming the debts of the poor people. Former Vice Chancellor of Lumbini Buddhist University Pvt. Dr. Triratna Manandhar informed. “Nepal Samvat, which started from the reign of King Raghavdev of the Lichchhavi period, was a fundamental Samvat till the reign of Prithvinarayan Shah.
