Pathibhara is a famous Shakti Peeth located in Taplejung district. The Pathibhara temple is considered an important religious site for Hindus, Buddhists and nature worshipers. The goddess is believed to have been named ‘Pathibhara Devi’ because of her place of origin on the top of a hill, which is as beautiful as a grain-filled pathi.

The indigenous Limbu communities of Taplejung know this temple as “Muktratuvung”. In the Limbu language, “Muktru” means power or force, “Wung” means plant. That is to say, the Limbu people manifest Pathibhara as a source or path of power.
