As soon as the sun rises, Sarantkot of Pokhara and Sri Antu of East Ilam come to our mind. Recently, the number of tourists coming to see the sunrise from Suketar Gupte dada in Taplejung has started increasing. Crowds have started flocking to Suketar Guptedanda in Phungling Municipality-9 of Taplejung District to watch the first sunrise. Recently, locals have started naming it as Sunrise View Point and since then, internal and external tourists have started coming to see the first sunset.

A direct sunrise can be observed from Sunrise View Point in Gupte dada at 6:16 in the morning. Every day, internal and external tourists arrive at Sunrise View Point at 5 am carrying tea and lunch in a thermos to see the first sunset and observe the sunrise.

With the sunrise observation, the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, and the world’s third highest mountain, Kanjjungha, as well as other mountains can be seen directly, so the view of the mountain and the first sunset is crowded with photographers. After observing the sunrise, the tourists return with the tea they have brought.

Ghanendra Maden, head of the Taplejung District Coordinating Committee, said that the Sunrise View Point, which had not been publicized in the past years, has now been added as a Sunrise View Point for the tourist destination of Taplejung.

Must Read

Talking about his experience of observing the sunrise of Nagarkot in Bhaktapur and Sri Antu in Ilam, he said, “You can observe the sunrise in the same way from the Sunrise View Point in Sri Antu of Ilam and Taplejung.” As Taplejung’s Sunrise View Point is a natural view tower in itself, it is necessary to build a sky bridge and a pillar on another hill to make a place to observe the sunrise from that place as well, said Maden.

Taplejung is also known as a religious district. Thousands of people visit Pathibhara Devi every year. As the Sunrise View Point is also in the Pathibhara area, the first sunset can be seen along with the Pathibhara view, said Limbu.

Taplejung Airport

One of the tourist spots of Taplejung, Sunrise View Point of Suketar Guptedanda, needs to be visited once the sun rises, said Paktanglung Gaonpalika-6 Bishas Limbu. Chief of Fungling Municipality Chhatrapati Pyakurel said that the municipality has allocated Rs. 1 million last fiscal year for the construction of fence and necessary structure of the sunrise observation site to promote it as a tourist destination.

He said, “I have mentioned in my election manifesto that Sunrise View Point will be turned into a tourist destination and the necessary physical infrastructure will be constructed by the time of my tenure.” Suketar Airport is located at a distance of five kilometers from Taplejung headquarters Phungling via Kalopatre Road and Gupte is located at a distance of about one kilometer from Suketar. A car park has been constructed in Gupte to watch the sunrise. You can park your car and walk for about 10 minutes to the view tower.

Pathibhara : Overview

Pathibhara is a famous Shakti Peeth located in Taplejung district. The Pathibhara temple is considered an important religious site for Hindus, Buddhists and nature worshipers. The goddess is believed to have been named ‘Pathibhara Devi’ because of her place of origin on the top of a hill, which is as beautiful as a grain-filled pathi.

The indigenous Limbu communities of Taplejung know this temple as “Muktratuvung”. In the Limbu language, “Muktru” means power or force, “Wung” means plant. That is to say, the Limbu people manifest Pathibhara as a source or path of power. It was a religious site for the Limbus, but after the conquest of the Gurkha kingdom, the goddess was included in the Hindu and Buddhist clans and was worshiped as a sacred temple.

We should not be mistaken about Pathibhara Devi’s shrine or pilgrimage site. There are three pilgrimage sites of Pathibhara Devi in Mechi zone. The largest is Pathibhara Mata Puranic Dham in Taplejung District, the second is Pathibhara Dham in Kutidada near Ilam Kanyam Tourist Area and the third is Pathibhara Dham in Kutidada near Ilam Kanyam Tourist Area. It  shrine located in a forested area a little west of Charali Bazaar in Jhapa district, which is considered to be the largest in the Mechi zone. The place is also called by the devotees as Pathibhara Devi.

Worship is also done at the feet of the goddess Pathibhara. Thus, there are three Pathibhara shrines including Taplejung , Ilam and Pau Pathbhara of Jhapa.

Devotees can easily visit Jhapa, Ilam and Taplejung Pathibhara respectively. If you are planning to visit Taplejung even after visiting Jhapa and Ilam Pathibhara, it may take you one more day depending on the type of vehicle on the journey and you may have to stay in Ilam or Pachthar district for one more day. One day it will decrease or there will be a new settlement in Ilam or Pachthar district.

This is how to reach the Main Temple of Pathibhara Mata

Tute Durali is reached 87 km east of the district headquarters Khandbari. After an hour’s walk through the dense forest of Gurans from Tute Deurali, you reach here. Khandbari-Chainpur-Tute Deurali can be reached which falls on the Kimathanka-Jogwani Koshi highway. From there, it is a 20-minute drive to reach the first step to reach the Pathibhara Bhagwati Temple. After crossing a thousand steps from that step, one reaches the  temple.

The secret of the Sacred Blood  Presented to Goddess

Another surprise is that sacrifices (offerings) are made to the goddess there. Thousands of animals and birds are slaughtered. But there you can’t even see any blood on the head of the animal. Blood is seen on the top with the chinna. Combines with soil on falling on the ground.

Wishes come true

People’s faith that Bhagwati will fulfill her request if she worships Mata with a clean and holy spirit is increasing day by day. Most of the people who go to this place  say that they have succeeded or been free from the crisis because of the gift they asked for. Truly supernatural and wonderful is the result of Mother’s philosophy. This is the reason why devotees from India, Bhutan and Sikkim, not only from Nepal, but also from India, Bhutan and Sikkim, have come to pay their respects. Most devotees say that all success is achieved only after Darshan.

But in Pathibhara Dham, it is said that a pregnant woman, a woman with menstruation (untouched or moved), a man with a barkhi, a person with greed in his heart and sin should not go.
