Introduction

Tanahu Kalika Shaheed Peace Park in Tanahu’s Beas Municipality-4 will be developed as a religious tourist destination. A pagoda-style artistic Kalika temple is being constructed in Kalika Jungle Park in Beas Municipality-4. The Mallakalin pagoda style temple has been constructed using wood, brick and metal with the objective of developing the temple as a religious tourist destination.

Tanahu Kalika Martyrs and Peace Park covers an area of about 8 hectares of Bagbhanjyang Community Forest in Damauli Bazaar to the east and north, Madi River in the west and Damauli Bazaar in the south. Located at a distance of one kilometer from Damauli Bazaar, various structures have been constructed with the objective of developing this park as a religious tourist destination.

Tourist potential

This park seems to play an important role in making Beas Municipality-4 Damauli Bazaar a center of internal tourism. By working according to the master plan, it can be made the focal point of religious tourism. This park has the potential to become a religious tourism destination not only in Damauli but also in Tanahun.

According to the master plan, some other funds will be required for the construction of structures other than temples. In the past, a 36-square-foot tin roofed Tanahu Kalika temple was established with the participation of the Parliamentary Constituency Infrastructure Development Program and local consumers. The temple is currently being rebuilt.

Problems

Locals say that the construction of infrastructure at Tanahu Kalika Shaheed Peace Park in Beas Municipality-4, which is listed as one of the 100 new tourist destinations, has not been able to move ahead due to lack of budget. Despite the goal of developing the park as a religious tourist destination, there has been a problem in accelerating the construction of infrastructure due to lack of budget.

Some infrastructure construction has been completed inside the park, which is one kilometer away from Damauli Bazaar, with the help of the government, private sector and locals. According to the master plan, infrastructures including entrance, ticket counter, parking lot, martyr’s memorial park, kindergarten, water fountain, small zoo, view tower and resting place are yet to be constructed in the park.

The temple can be reached by climbing a stairway of about 1 km from Damauli and you have to cross 800 meters by car. As 100 meters of the road has been tarred, the remaining 700 meters will be tarred this year.
