It is difficult to write or give an opinion about a typical day at work, as there is nothing typical about caring for kids from failed adoptions with Reactive Attachment Disorder. Every day is a new experience, and we have to be flexible enough to “change horses in the middle of the stream”, so to speak, regardless of the plan for that day. The hardest part of the job has been attempting to train young staff members to be patient and not expect any type of instant gratification from these kids, in the form of love or even friendship. I am truly overwhelmed by the caring and compassion that exists at Hope Center Memory Care in Fayetteville. Everyone goes above and beyond to provide care not only for the residents, but for the family as well. She has spoken more in the last few weeks than she has in the last six years. I may not understand all she is talking about, however, that she talks and is more engaged is such a blessing. We actually sang some Christmas carols together last week!
