Surya Namaskar and Namaste : Importance

Surya Namaskar and Namaste, Due to various factors and beliefs, the culture of salutation has developed all over the world. Even the western countries, which used to embrace each other after meeting some time ago, have established the custom of greeting each other. Nowadays, the culture of greeting is changing everywhere. We need to tell children scientifically why and how to greet.

According to Eastern rites, it is customary to bow down to a revered person, while a stranger is greeted. When guests come to the house, some food or drink is served first.

Family members also sit down to eat with guests. We give special respect to the guest than to the family members. In our daily diet, we eat only sattvic and light food. The practice of greeting when meeting and leaving is a tradition that has been going on since time immemorial.

Greetings help to destroy our ego. Greetings work to develop humility and purify the mind. Therefore, the first greeting should be done on your own behalf. Even touching the feet of people older than oneself destroys one’s ego, so it is considered as an effective greeting ritual. There is a religious belief that the touch of the feet of the saints destroys the sin of three births.

The sacrifices and penances that saints acquire knowledge. They gladly take that knowledge if anyone wants to. Just like a shopkeeper shows happiness when his goods are sold. In the same way, the knowledge of a saint plays an important role in our spiritual peace.
