The Hunainath Temple area, known as the heritage of faith and religious power of the people of the far west, will be developed as a tourist destination. Located in Malikarjun Gaonpalika Ward No. 4 of Darchula district, which is attended by a significant number of devotees not only from Nepal but also from neighboring countries, the area is being developed as a tourist destination.

The Malikarjun village municipality has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Aviation for a tourism infrastructure and tourism product development partnership program.  The Hunainath Tourism Development Society has requested the village municipality to develop the area as a religious tourism including construction of Ranipatal garden in the Hunainath temple area.

The Hunainath Temple is known as an important powerhouse in the Lekam area of ​​Darchula district. Krishna Singh Dhami, executive director of the organization, said that all the infrastructure related to tourism and environment-friendly Ranipatal garden will be constructed immediately after the master plan for the development of the area.

The Malikarjun region, known as the seventh abode of the nation, is one of the hundreds of tourist destinations across the country declared by the Government of Nepal.The village municipality is cooperating with all the agencies to develop other tourist areas within the village municipality in a phased manner.

The Malikarjun Municipality has submitted a proposal to the Ministry for the construction of a park at Shivalaya in Shankarpur area along with Hunainath to be implemented in the current fiscal year.A pujan procession has started on Thursday at Malikarjun Dham, the seventh Dham of the nation and a major religious pilgrimage site in Darchula district.

Shikhar Pujan Jatra is held every year on Asir Shukla Chaturdashi and Kartik Shukla Triodashi in Shailyashikhar Dham in Malikarjun village and Shailyashikhar municipality of Lekam region.It is customary for married women and young men who have fasted to visit Shailyashikhar Dham, a heritage site of the Hindu faith, to be cleansed 15 days in advance.

Shikhar Dham, also known as Shivaligan, is believed to be the main abode of Malikarjun and Bhagashri, i.e. Shiva-Parvati.The people believe that by visiting Shikhar Dham, all sins will be destroyed and their desires will be fulfilled and their children will be happy. The Shikhar Jatra starts from the Bhandarighar of Malikarjun village municipality-3 and reaches the Shikhar area through the Malikarjun temple. A large number of devotees from most districts of Province No. 7 as well as Uttarakhand from India have reached Malikarjun since Wednesday to visit Shikhar Dham. Thousands of devotees visit Shikhar Dham every year .Malikarjun, the main religious tourist destination of the district, which was declared as the seventh sanctuary of the nation by the government of Nepal in 2065 BS, has been celebrating Gaura festival in August and huge pilgrimage in the month of Kartik and Mansir. Pujan Jatra is held at Shailyasikhar Dham, about 5 km from Malikarjun Temple, on the days of Asar Sukla Chatudarshi and Kartik Shukla Triodashi. People have been participating in the Sikhar Jatra by completing the same ritual according to the legend that they can visit the Sikhar Dham, the heritage of the Hindu faith, only after marrying women and staying in Chokhovart for 15 days.
