Unified CPN-Maoist Constituency: Gorkha-1 (won by getting 22824 votes), Rupendehi-4. Dr. Baburam Bhattarai is the 35th Prime Minister of Nepal and a senior leader of the Unified CPN (Maoist). Baburam Bhattarai, who became the Prime Minister on September 26, 2008, served as the Prime Minister for 19 months.

Baburam Bhattarai, who was born as the son of Bhoj Prasad Bhattarai and Dharmakumari on July 19, 2011, was board first in the SLC of 2026 BS. He was also the first in ISC. Architecture Bhattarai has a doctorate in The Nature of Underdevelopment and Regional Structure of Nepal, A Marxist View.

Bhattarai has been interested in politics since 2027 BS when he was studying at Amrit Science Campus. Bhattarai was initially anti-monarchy. But after BP  Koirala returned to Nepal with a policy of cooperation with the monarchy, his leftist leanings grew and Bhattarai, influenced by the Jhapa movement, became attracted to the CPN (ML). But he disagreed with the CPN (ML) on the issue of political change in China. And, Bhattarai joined the then CPN (Fourth General Convention) which considered China’s political change as counter-revolution.

Apart from the Nepali Congress and the United Left Front, which was fighting against the Panchayat during the Jana Andolan of 2046 BS, Bhattarai became the spokesperson of the United National Jana Andolan on behalf of the CPN (Masal). Baburam Bhattarai’s group, the CPN (Mashal) and the Proletarian Workers’ Organization merged to form the CPN (Ektakendra) after a dispute with Mohan Bikram Singh over whether to participate in the election. The United People’s Front, formed under Bhattarai’s leadership, won nine seats in the 2048 parliamentary elections and became the third largest force in parliament.

After the split of the CPN (Unity Center) in 2051 BS and the formation of the CPN (Maoist), Bhattarai has been in the top leadership of the party. Baburam Bhattarai is considered to be the mastermind behind the peaceful transition of the then CPN (Maoist) involved in the armed insurgency. Bhattarai was the coordinator of the rebel side’s talks with the government before returning to peaceful politics from the armed insurgency.

Bhattarai was the Finance Minister in the coalition government formed on September 20, 2006. In the same government, Safal Bhattarai was criticized as the prime minister. Safal Bhattarai, who proved to be frugal when he was the finance minister, on the contrary lost his popularity by spending unnecessarily when he was the prime minister.
