Vaastu Shastra
Vaastu Shastra is an ancient science. Vaastu means house and Shastra means discipline and instruction. Therefore, “Vaastu Shastra” means instruction on how to build a house or any structure. Architecture can be considered as the ancient form of modern science and architecture. According to Hinduism, happiness, peace and prosperity are achieved by living in a house built according to Vaastu Shastra.
According to Vastu Shastra, when building a house, everything in the house is taken into consideration. Special attention is paid to the entrance, kitchen, place of worship, guest room etc. This article gives you a brief overview on architecture.
Main Entrance
Vastu Shastra says that the main entrance of the house should be decorated. Here are the things to look for when designing an entrance:
- The main entrance should be taller and bigger than the other doors
- The door should open well and make no noise and the door should not open and close by itself
- No door of the house should be below ground level
- It is advisable to make the main gate on the east and north side of the wall
- The gate should be made at southwest and northwest angles
Place of worship
Worship is of great importance in Hinduism and a separate place of worship is made at home for this devotional act. Here are some things to keep in mind when building a shrine:
- The door of the shrine should not be made of tin or iron
- The worship room should not be just above or below the toilet
- The worship room should not be connected to the toilet by the same wall
- The color of the worship room should be light cream and white and the worship room should not be made in the bedroom
- A picture or idol of God should not be placed at a southwest angle
- It is considered very auspicious to have a picture of a deity in the house. It should be hung on the east or north wall.
Kitchen
According to Vaastu Shastra, the purity and cleanliness of the kitchen is no less than that of any temple. So when making a kitchen, the following things should be taken into consideration:
- It is best to build a kitchen in the southeast, but not in the northwest
- The cooking area should not touch the east and north walls
- It is considered appropriate to return to the east to cook
- The gas and stove of the house should be in an invisible place from outside
- Water taps and stoves should not be kept close
- Food should be eaten sitting in the middle of the kitchen
Children’s Room
According to Vaastu Shastra, for the progress and development of children, their room should be designed with the following in mind:
- It is better to have a children’s room in the west
- Mirrors, computers, TVs, etc. should not be placed in front of the bed
- The middle part of the room should always be empty
- Don’t use too many flashing lights
- It is advisable to place the baby’s bed in the south-eastern part
- While sleeping, the head should be facing east or south
Bedroom
The bedroom should be built according to Vaastu Shastra. Otherwise, nightmares will look bad. The following things should be taken care of in bedroom construction:
- It is better to make the main bedroom in the south
- The bed should be installed with the sleeping head facing south
- The bedroom is considered to be square in shape and the room should not be irregular in shape
- There should be no place of worship in the bedroom
- Do not place a mirror in front of the bed
- It is advisable to keep nice pictures, flowers and pictures in the bedroom
- According to Vaastu Shastra, it is not good to have an aquarium in the bedroom

Color:
