Karnali : With the federal government declaring 2020 as the ‘Nepal Tourism Year’, state and local governments are working on plans for tourist attractions. Karnali, which has a lot of potential for tourism, is also eager to welcome tourists. The Ranali government is launching the year of tourism from Surkhet today with the objective of supporting the promotion of tourist destinations.
Bubble is the main destination of Surkhet. The state government is planning to welcome tourists from here and attract as many internal and external tourists as possible in the year of visit. The state government celebrated 2075 BS as ‘Rara-Karnali Tourism Year’. Rara remained at the center of the year-round tourism activities. Due to this, other destinations connected with Rara were also chosen by the tourists.
Tourist activity continued throughout the year. Minister for Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Nanda Singh Budha said that Rara Karnali is preparing to attract more domestic and foreign tourists in the year 2020 based on the achievements and learning of the tourism year. “The Rara Karnali Tourism Year has created a great debate for the promotion and development of the tourism sector,” he said.
This time, in the year 2020 BS, the Tourism Promotion Committee of the state government is planning to create its own slogan and logo to attract tourists to Karnali. The state government is realizing the concept of tourist-friendly Karnali by conducting simultaneous promotion and infrastructure development work under the slogan ‘Let’s go to Karnali this time’ (It’s Time for Karnali).
The state government is unveiling a ‘tourism master plan’ prepared after nine months for its systematic implementation. Minister Budha said that the government is committed to provide maximum facilities and security to the tourists during the visit year. Raju Karki, a hotelier from Rara and co-coordinator of the state-level Tourism Promotion Committee, said that Karnali was a destination not only for observing the natural beauty and pilgrimage but also for studying the cultural diversity.
“Karnali is beautiful in all respects. There are endless features in Nepal that can be found here,” he said. He said that one can enjoy trekking in Humla-Dolpa, Bheri and Karnali. There are many tourist attractions in Karnali. The general public is interested in studying / observing new topics. A similar new scene can be seen in Karnali. Mugu has one of the largest raratals in Nepal, where the snotroot species is found nowhere else.
The saptarang seen in the lake water in the open season fascinates the visitors. Rara can be reached after a one-and-a-half day bus journey from Surkhet or a two-hour uphill walk from Surkhet-Nepalgunj to Mugu’s Talcha Airport. From here, Chhayannath Himal can be observed. Fascinated by the immense beauty of Rara, the then King Mahendra had given the title of ‘Fairy of Heaven’ in the year 2020. Horseback riding and boat rides can be enjoyed at Rara. Murmatap is called Rara’s View Tower. From there, the full form of Rara can be captured on camera.
Chankheli Himal is on the border of Mugu and Humla. A picture of this mountain is kept on a rupee note. The Humla road is used to reach Mansarovar, a place of pilgrimage for both Hindus and Buddhists. Hundreds of Indian tourists visit Mansarovar from here every year. Simkot of Humla is the highest headquarters of Nepal. It is at an altitude of 2,900 meters above sea level.
The Limi Valley can be reached in five days on foot from Simkot. There is a thousand year old Halji Gumba here. Humla is a fast gateway for world pilgrims and Mansarovar. Dolpa has the deepest She-Foxendo lake. There is a famous Tripurasundari temple in Dolpa. Snow leopards can be seen in She Foxando National Park. Lower and upper dolpa are considered suitable for hiking.

After a three-hour bus journey from Jumla headquarters Khalangabazar, you reach the Sinja area. Rara can be reached through Sinja area. Jumla has Kanjirova and Patarasi mountains. People from different parts of the country come there believing that bathing in hot water will bring health benefits. There is a famous Chandannath temple in Khalanga, the district headquarters. Jumla is equally famous for its world-class paddy cultivation, Marcy rice, beans and apples.
Along with the Pachal waterfall of Kalikot, the Pili area is popular for war tourism. The beautiful settlements of Karnali seen from the Karnali Highway are an additional attraction for tourists. There is the first record of Nepali language in Dullu of Dailekh. Shirasthan, Navisthan, Dhuleshwar, Paduka, Kotila Panchkoshi areas are the first choice for tourists visiting Dailekh. For the first time in Nepal, a multi-purpose project of digging a tunnel with a machine and diverting water from one river to another is being constructed here. Karnali is the longest river in the country and its source is Mansarovar. For that, homestay is being run by the Tharu community .President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Karnali, Padma Bahadur Shahi said that the construction of Bheri and Karnali corridors would help in the tourism infrastructure and tourist traffic of Karnali. He says, “The Bheri Corridor will connect Salyan, Jajarkot and Dolpa with tourists through East Surkhet, while the Karnali Corridor will connect Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot and Humla.” He is of the view that Karnali should be developed as a frequent destination for tourists, not just once.
