Surkhet, Tourism is the mainstay of Karnali’s economic prosperity. Recently, the traffic of internal and external tourists has been increasing in the tourist areas of Karnali. It is now necessary for the central, state and local levels to build comfortable infrastructure in the tourist areas keeping in view the tourist traffic. Birendra Nagar Surkhet, the capital of Karnali, is also an important tourist destination. There are religious, adventure and other tourist areas. Karkrebihar, the second largest historical and religious tourist destination in Lumbini, is a major tourist destination in the district.
Tourist places of Surkhet district
1. Kakrevihar
Kakrevihar is the major tourist destination of Surkhet district. Kakrebihar, adorned with historical dog masterpieces, has become a tourist attraction. Kakrebihar is the second tourist destination after Lumbini, adorned with artefacts made by gods and goddesses in ancient times in the surrounding forests. Kakre Vihar, located at a distance of 3 km from Mangalgadhi Chowk in Birendra Nagar, can be easily reached on foot and by car.
2. Bheri Karnali confluence site
Bheri Kanali Sangam is the second tourist destination of Surkhet district. The lush green forest, the fresh air, the melodious voices of the various species of birds in the forest captivate anyone. The natural green beauty makes the mind of a tourist visiting this region restless. This area is located at a distance of 45 km west of Birendranagar.
3. Deuti Bajai temple
Deuti Bajai Temple is a major destination for religious tourism in Surkhet district. Devotees visit this temple with the belief that the desires of the heart will be fulfilled. Located 2.5 km southeast of Birendranagar, the temple is easily accessible on foot and by car.
4. Bulbule Lake
Bulbule Lake is the only nearby tourist destination in Surkhet district. This lake is small but it is visited by both internal and external tourists. Stones have been provided for visitors to the lake. You can easily take a bath at the mouth of this lake with a garden around it.
5. Baraha Taal
Baraha Lake in the western part of this distrcit is a beautiful place for tourism. The lake in the middle of the dense forest is a model of natural attraction. Surkhe is located at a distance of 30 kilometers from the district headquarters.
6. Chamere Cave
Awasthi Chamere Cave in Panchpuri Municipality of Surkhet District is a destination for tourism. Located about 75 km west of Birendranag, this cave is a tourist attraction. Going to the cave, you can see the breathtaking views from the Panchpuri hills.
