Speaking Part 2: Cue Card

Part 2 कसरी चल्छ?

Cue card को बनावट

हरेक card मा एउटा विषय र तीन–चार bullet हुन्छन्। अन्तिम bullet प्रायः “and explain why…”

  • “Explain why” का लागि २ कारण टिप्नुहोस्।
  • प्रयोग गर्न चाहेका १–२ राम्रा शब्द पनि लेख्नुहोस्।

बोल्ने संरचना

भागसमयके भन्ने
Opening~10 सेकेन्ड“I’d like to talk about…” — विषय सीधै भन्ने
Bullet 1–3~70 सेकेन्डक्रमैसँग, detail र सानो कथासहित
Explain why~30 सेकेन्डभावना, कारण, जीवनमा परेको प्रभाव
Ending~10 सेकेन्ड“So that’s why…” वा भविष्यको योजना

Detail थप्ने तरिका

समय नपुगेजस्तो लाग्दा यी प्रश्न आफैंलाई सोध्नुहोस्: Who was there? What did it look like? How did I feel? What happened next? How is it different now? यसलाई 5W + feelings भनेर सम्झनुहोस्।

  • Preparation time: बोल्नुअघिको 1 मिनेट।

उदाहरण

Cue card

Describe a skill you learned that you are proud of.
You should say:
what the skill is
when and how you learned it
who helped you
and explain why you are proud of it.

1 मिनेटका notes

  • Skill: swimming
  • When/how: age 19, summer, pool in Pokhara, 6 weeks, early mornings
  • Who: cousin Bikash, patient, “float first”
  • Why proud: scared of water since child (river incident), now swim 1 km, confidence

नमुना उत्तर (करिब 2 मिनेट)

I’d like to talk about swimming, which is probably the skill I’m proudest of, even though plenty of people learn it as small children.

I actually learned it quite late, when I was nineteen. I spent one summer holiday at my aunt’s house in Pokhara, and there was a public swimming pool about ten minutes’ walk away. For six weeks I went there almost every morning at around six o’clock, partly because it was cooler and partly because the pool was nearly empty, so nobody could watch me struggling.

The person who helped me most was my cousin, Bikash, who’s a really strong swimmer. He was incredibly patient. Instead of making me swim straight away, he spent the first week just teaching me to float and to breathe calmly with my face in the water. Only after that did we start working on kicking and arm movements.

The reason I’m so proud of it is that I’d been genuinely frightened of water since I was about seven. I slipped into a river near my village once, and although an uncle pulled me out within seconds, I never forgot that feeling of panic. So, for years, I avoided lakes and pools completely, and I felt quite embarrassed about it.

Now I can swim about a kilometre without stopping, and I go to the pool regularly. But more importantly, it taught me that I can overcome a fear if I take it step by step. Whenever I face something difficult now, like a tough exam, I remind myself of that summer.

यो उत्तर किन प्रभावकारी छ?

  • Bullet क्रम: what → when/how → who → why; examiner ले सजिलै पछ्याउन सक्छन्।
  • कथा र detail: बिहान ६ बजे, “float first”, नदीको घटना — सामान्य भनाइभन्दा specific।
  • Grammar range: past perfect (I’d been frightened since…), inversion (Only after that did we…), relative clause (who’s a really strong swimmer)।
  • Explain why गहिरो छ: डर, लाज, अनि जीवनको पाठ — सबैभन्दा लामो भाग यही हो।
  • Notes मा पूरा वाक्य थिएन, तर keyword ले सबै भाग सम्झायो।

सामान्य गल्ती

  • Notes मा पूरा वाक्य लेख्नु: 1 मिनेट पुग्दैन, र पढेजस्तो बोलिन्छ।
  • Card पढेर सुरु गर्नु: “Describe a skill you learned…” दोहोर्‍याउनुभन्दा सीधै “I’d like to talk about…” भन्नुहोस्।
  • 30–40 सेकेन्डमै रोकिनु: 5W + feelings प्रयोग गरेर detail थप्नुहोस्।
  • विषयबाट भट्किनु वा अर्कै रटिएको कथा मिलाउनु: card को विषयसँग सम्बन्ध स्पष्ट हुनुपर्छ।
  • “Explain why” छोटो पार्नु: यो भाग प्रायः सबैभन्दा कमजोर हुन्छ; कम्तीमा २ कारण दिनुहोस्।
  • Tense मिसाउनु: विगतको घटनामा present tense प्रयोग गर्नु।
घरमा phone को timer मा 1 मिनेट तयारी र 2 मिनेट बोल्ने अभ्यास record गर्नुहोस्। सुनेर कति ठाउँमा लामो pause आयो भनेर गन्नुहोस्।

सारांश

  • Part 2 = cue card, 1 मिनेट तयारी, 1–2 मिनेट एक्लै बोल्ने।
  • Notes मा keyword मात्र; हरेक bullet का लागि २–३ शब्द।
  • Bullet क्रममा बोल्नुहोस् र “explain why” लाई सबैभन्दा बढी समय दिनुहोस्।
  • Specific detail र सानो कथाले fluency र vocabulary दुवै देखाउँछ।
  • Examiner ले 2 मिनेटमा रोक्नु सामान्य हो।
