These days, many young people in countries like Nepal face a choice between studying at home and going abroad. Both options have clear advantages, and in my view the right choice depends on the student's subject and resources.

On the one hand, studying abroad can offer access to modern laboratories, research opportunities and teachers with international experience. Students also improve their English and learn to live independently, which employers value. For example, an engineering student in Australia may work on industry projects that are not yet available at home.

On the other hand, studying in one's own country is far cheaper and keeps students close to their families and culture. Many local universities now offer good programmes, especially in fields such as medicine and law where the student will later work in the same country. In addition, graduates who stay are more likely to contribute directly to national development.

In my opinion, studying abroad is worthwhile when a course is genuinely better or unavailable at home and the family can afford it without heavy debt. Otherwise, a strong local degree followed by short international training can give many of the same benefits.

In conclusion, both paths can lead to success. Students should compare the quality, cost and future use of each course rather than assuming that a foreign degree is always better.
