Read the passage and answer the question. Every spring, monarch butterflies leave their winter forests in Mexico and fly north. They lay eggs on the way and then die, and their offspring continue the journey. By late summer, several generations later, monarchs have reached Canada. In autumn, a special generation that lives much longer than the others flies all the way back to Mexico. These are the great-grandchildren of the butterflies that left Mexico in spring.
