Read the passage and answer the question. Iceland sits on the boundary between two of the Earth's tectonic plates, which is why it has so many volcanoes and hot springs. Icelanders have turned this into an advantage: around nine out of ten homes are heated by geothermal energy, with hot water from underground piped directly into buildings. Geothermal and hydroelectric power together also supply almost all of the country's electricity. As a result, although Iceland has a cold climate, it depends very little on imported fossil fuels for heating and electricity. Why does Iceland have many volcanoes and hot springs?
