Mardi Trek: An Overview

Mardi Trek is one of the most adventurous and exciting trek.  You will feel like you can touch the huge mountain range in front of you by hand. It is heavenly feeling to witness the green forests, beautiful hills, snow-capped white mountains, and settlements. Such an opportunity is available only to those who hike Mardi Himal. More than half a dozen mountains including Kumari Machhapuchhre, Mardi, Annapurna South, Himachuli, Annapurna I, Gangapurna and Gandharva Chuli can be seen from this trip.

The people coming to this place is heavily increasing now.This place was taken as an international arena after organizing  The Ultra Marathon World Cup in this place .

As the base camp of Mardi Himal near Kumari Machhapuchhre, which has not been open for climbing till now, can be reached, it has been developed as Mardi Himal trekking route.

How To Reach Mardi

Kalimati and Siding can be reached by jeep through Ghalel of Machhapuchhre village municipality which is 22 km away from Pokhara.From there, you can climb the hill through the forest and reach the low camp located at an altitude of 2,970 meters. Tourists reach Low Camp via Pothana, Australian Camp, Pritam Deurali and Forest Camp from Machhapuchhkai Dhampus and Annapurna. From base Camp, you can reach an  altitude of 4,500 meters, High Camp and View Point via Badaldanda

Half a dozen mountains can be seen from the view point, including the Pokhara Valley. Most of the tourists reach Mardi Himal Base Camp, Ghalel, Cannoning  known as the Tea Village called Lawang. Five or six years ago, the road was anonymous. Even those who find it difficult to see tourists find it difficult to keep tourists in the main season for the last two-three years, while the number of tourists is high even at other times. The number of Nepalis is the same as that of foreigners.

Shiva Prasad Bhandari, a member of the Mountaineering Management Committee, which has been operating Mardi Himal Eco Village in Machhapuchche Gaonpalika-8, Kalimati for the past five years, said that the tourist season would be able to stop in the main season for the next two years.While there were only one or two hotels and lodges at the time of running his business, now more than a dozen hotel restaurants and some houses have been started in Kalimati.

He says that it will not be inconvenient to keep tourists from this.Apart from this, new hotels and restaurants are being added in other places along the trekking route. “Even though it is a new route, the number of tourists has increased. Along with foreigners, a significant number of domestic tourists also come for trekking, ‘said Bhandari.It attracts young and old alike, even for short distances.

Facilities

Previously trekking route at that time when pedestrians were facing inconvenience by reaching the roads on the cycling Annapurna, Ghandruk, Ghorepani and other popular trekking routes.Secretary of the Trekking Agents Association Nepal (TAN) Western Chapter Pokhara, Jeevan Raj Sapkota, says that the trekking agents should be developed as a trekking route by keeping the trekking route away from road access.

Entrepreneurs have been taking tourists on a six-night, seven-day package.As the government has declared 2020 as the Nepal Tourism Year, it will also play a role in increasing the tourist traffic. ‘Unorganized hotels and increasing pollution are sure to cause problems here in the future. It is now clear who will regulate the Annapurna Conservation Area Project or the local government and a long-term plan should be made to preserve its beauty, ”said Sapkota.
