Bhupi Sherchan has been much discussed till date. Nepali poets have been learning a lot from him. That is why they are our common school. Bhupi Sherchan wrote a trend poem. Since then, there have been many trends in poetry writing. New poets have started writing in different languages, styles and thoughts. But, he is the foundation, our revered poet.

Every poet who looks at society has his own vision. Bhupi Sherchan vision of politics, society, country and the world was of a very high order. In every one of his works, any subject is found to be viewed critically. His critical look seems very powerful. This is his strength. I don’t think such a sharp poet who looks critically at society and time has ever been born in Nepal. Bhupi Sherchan

Bhupi Sherchan
Bhupi Sherchan

The political consciousness in Bhupi Sherchan seems to be just as profound. Nowadays, some poets who write very good poems do not have political consciousness at all. Even a poet who asked for a republic yesterday and ate sticks and bullets in the process, while writing a poem today, opposes federalism. If that was the case, he would have become a monarchist without asking for a republic!

Bhupi Sherchan, on the other hand, had ideological clarity. Politically, he also has a lot of critical power. Other great poets do not have that power.

It is an immortal poem with a satirical tone when it comes to ‘blind man on a swivel chair’. The title itself is a whole poem. This poem full of political satire has severely whipped the rulers and abbots of that time. The style of governance of those who are not qualified is respected.

Even in terms of beauty, this poem is lyrical and rhythmic. Music is found in his poems. Even though prose is poetry, writing in verse is sweeter and more powerful than those who say I am. Bhupi Sherchan

Politically, the poem ‘Ghumne Mech’ is still relevant. Such a poem is never old. Let’s see now, those in power seem to be walking without the same plan, thinking and foundation as the previous rulers. There is a journey of confusion and conjecture.

Such a poem is enough to cure them. But, there is a problem in consciousness and sensation when there are rulers with rhino skin. Democracy has given freedom of expression, but the rulers will also have the right not to listen to you. This is the weakest aspect of democracy. It gives the right to speak, does not censor poetry, but it is not listened to. It is written to die, but who cares if it is not heard? The regime has a disease of cultivating a culture of silence and ignoring any voice. Bhupi Sherchan

Bhupi Sherchan had such a beautiful time, which made him Bhupi Sherchan. There was no freedom of expression during the Panchayat period, when it was easy for poets to establish their values. The police would have arrested him without giving him a beating through poetry. It also raised the value of the poet.

The value of any creation depends on how long it was written and how much response it received. Written but without any response is of no value. The person you hit with your finger had to say ‘Aiya’. The timing of such a reaction was strong before, but now it is weak.

At one point, Bhupi Sherchan was interviewed. In it, he wrote a poem saying that he would overthrow this government. A poet had that courage and faith. At that time, poets used to walk with their chests wide. Now the government and the rulers are happy no matter how much they are hit by poetry. He slaps his back as if to say, ‘Don’t hit me, I haven’t come to the discussion yet’. Bhupi Sherchan

Bhupi Sherchan also had a world consciousness of his time. At the time, he was writing a letter to Ho Chi Minh, a Vietnamese leader with a legacy of communist ideology. At that time, many Nepali poets may not have even heard of Ho-chi. Bhupi Sherchan

Bhupi Sherchan seems to be aware of what kind of political movement is going on in the world. Now you can easily know what is happening in the world from Facebook and Twitter. At that time, technology was not so accessible. If there was a movement for poetry in the UK, it would be known here years later. Such an uncomfortable time has given birth to Bhupi Sherchan.

Bhupi Sherchan
Bhupi Sherchan

He has written very powerful words like ‘Blind man on a swivel chair’ and ‘Land of noise’. But, from the point of view of art, I like his other poems better than this one. The ‘candle flame’ is in my throat. ‘We’ and ‘My Chowk’ are also unique. Bhupi Sherchan

However, the value of ‘blind man on a swivel chair’ is different as it has been satirized at the border. Even though it is satirized, it is done in polite, cultured and poetic language. Another aspect of how much satire works in the relevant place. Because our society is a society that only wakes up when it comes to teasing with firewood. The rulers returned, but there was no one in poetry and literature who could hear the voice of the people. Bhupi Sherchan

Fatteman : Life Background

Fatteman is a vivid, eternal and unforgettable name in the journey of Nepali modern song. The songs presented under this name stand on Nepali soil with endless vows. At one time, Fatteman’s voice was a limitation of popularity. Within that limit, he had established himself in about two hundred modern songs.

Fatteman was born on the full moon day of Mangsir in 1993 BS in Pashupati Devpattan, Kathmandu. He was the youngest son of two sons and four daughters of his father Jitman Rajbhandari and mother Purna Maya.

Her father was also a fan of music, so she had the opportunity to sing from an early age. His father used to sing while playing the tabla. He sang hymns in the courtyard of Pashupatinath along with his father and dedicated himself to these songs.

Because of Fatteman’s sweet voice, people have always loved listening to his hymns. They have been active in this field since the age of seven. From his childhood, he continued to participate in the daily hymns held at the Pashupatinath Temple premises.

Fatteman : The Singing Journey

From an early age, Fatteman used to raise his ears when it came to singing. That’s why he used to go wherever he was invited to perform. He was shocked to be able to stand on the stage and sing. Listening to his voice, the audience would also join him. He was a simple singer with a simple demeanor.

Fatteman entered Radio Nepal in 2018 BS. As he was engrossed in these hymns, he initially recorded the hymns on Radio Nepal as well. However, due to the popularity of their voices, they gradually began to take the lead in modern singing. Natikaji praised him by touching the steps of his modern song.

Natikaji was not only a fan of Fatteman, Natikaji also became one of his advisors and directors. That is why he provided his voice in many of Natikaji’s songs. Similarly, his other fan is Shiva Shankar. He also sang in some of the music of Shiva Shankar. He sang many songs of various lyricists and composers and made them very popular :

कस्तो माया लाइएछ आफ्नै मन मारिदिने
कस्तो बत्ती बालिएछ रात लामो पारिदिने ।
(स्वर ः फत्तेमान, सङ्गीत ः शिवशङ्कर, शब्द ः राममान तृषित)

King Mahendra also praised the voice of Fatteman Rajbhandari. Listening to Fatteman’s voice, famous lyricists of Nepal also followed him. In fact, Fatteman used to sing only by touching words and music. That’s how his voices got to be known as soon as possible. He was a powerful scholar of voice. Fatteman is considered to be one of the most popular singers in Nepal. He is not only polite but also honest. In the sprawling Nepali world, he has emerged as a different humanist artist.

That’s why those who know him say, “Fatteman is Bambhole.” His desire, ambition and desire are considered to be the same musical journey. He got soaked in the same music. That’s why he has mingled with musicians as well.

The closer Fatteman was to Natikaji from the beginning, the closer he became to Natikaji throughout his life. Not only that, he also became Natikaji’s happiness and sorrow. If Natikaji’s thoughts have gone out, then most of those things have reached Fatteman’s ears. In fact, Fatteman is considered to be a giant.

Fatteman had a relationship with Narayangopal from an early age. Narayangopal used to call him Maharaj because of his association with Fatteman’s jogis. Narayangopal often went to Pashupati to meet Fatteman. Narayangopal also praised Fatteman’s voice since he was a teenager. After all, the feelings of these two became even more the same. He also included Narayangopal’s music.

In fact, around the year 2035-036, Narayanfatte’s song had established a new twist in the Nepali music garden. Fatteman’s songs quickly became popular with the Nepali public because of the high level of competition in their voices, music and lyrics:

बनै खायो डढेलोले
मनै खायो त्यै मोरीको
पापी मायाले ।
(स्वर ः फत्तेमान, सङ्गीत ः नारायणगोपाल, शब्द ः कालीप्रसाद रिजाल)

The Later Life

In 2016, Fatteman embellished the seams of the Jamuna Rajbhandari, handed over grandchildren around his neck, and stole rings from women. After the marriage, her musical atmosphere was further developed. Then he started composing Echohoro music. As a result, twenty of his musical tunes were received in the history of Nepali music. He is running his life cycle by collecting rent from his parents’ property. He could not raise as much as he spent by singing.

Fatteman had become a church within eight years of his arrival on the radio. In the year 2026, he also participated in the modern song conference organized by Radio Nepal. He was the first in his voice to sing the song ‘Yasto Pani Hundo Rai’ Cha Zindagima Kai Lekai Le ‘. This competition was the first event of his life. He also received a gold medal from Sobapat King Mahendra. That incident made him even more excited. Filling the musical medal from the king’s arms, he sang more and more sweet songs.

Fatteman : The Voice Quality

Fragrance began to spread around his voice. Fatteman used to visit the palace from time to time. After singing there, he used to get expenses from King Mahendra. In fact, that was her golden age. He was following in the footsteps of singing with the same enthusiasm and fervor.

Chhinnalata Guthi also appreciated Fatteman’s singing activism. That is why he was awarded the Chhinnalata award in 2052 BS. News of Fatteman’s continuous singing journey reached the royal palace. That is why in the year 2055 BS, these mighty Gurkhas were adorned from the right arm. He was also awarded the Birendra Aishwarya Service Medal. Fatteman’s voice was appreciated from many quarters. He received honors and congratulatory letters from various places.

His contribution is being praised from all sides. Even small honors and decorations came out with more enthusiasm for Fatteman. Because he was simple, straightforward and polite, even small things were big for him. That’s why people say: “Fatteman is a good artist.” He only engaged in nafsi karma in the hope of fruit.

As a result, he struggled to keep his voice from getting old. He was only involved in echo singing. He sang solo songs during a huge function in Kathmandu on 25 July 2059, which was also broadcast live on Nepal Television. In the process, he gave a good introduction to the whole singing journey of his life. At that time, he was greeted with applause from the entire audience. At this time, his voice was full of admiration and his throat was touching the Nepali heart.

Fatteman had a great dream of becoming an executive scholar. However, it was also seen that those who were not suitable for his work were recruited by the party as scholars in the Nepal Music Academy. Today, on September 10, 2070, he passed away. But the leaders of those parties are now claiming that Fatteman was a special singer.
